Friendship

Enjoy Room 17's movie that reminds us how great it is to have friends with whom we can learn and play.

Yay!!!  Term three has begun!  We are all very happy and excited to be back at school with our friends.  We are looking forward to learning a lot of new things this term.
Like any new term, we began with an immersion assembly.  This term’s assembly was ‘out of this world’!  The theme for term 3 is Guardians of the Galaxy’, and Team 1 is going to be finding out all about the sun and the moon, and what they do for the earth.  It’s going to be exciting – and lots of fun!

Here is the movie that Team 1 teachers made to introduce the new inquiry.  Enjoy!

EMOTIONS MOVIE

This week our class presented a short movie for PENN (our school news).  We've been doing a lot of learning about POWERFUL WORDS.  We've learnt different ways of saying 'happy' or 'sad'.  So, we decided our movie should be about emotions.  Miss Hockly wrote the song and we had a lot of fun acting.  We hope you enjoy our movie.

Another Farewell

This afternoon was another day of ‘Goodbye’s.

For the last five weeks Rm 17 has been lucky to have Mrs Amy Davis in our class.  Mrs Davis was a student teacher, and she was fantastic!  We really appreciated the learning she shared with us all.  We especially enjoyed making lanterns to remind us about Matariki.

We hope Mrs Davis comes back to visit us sometime.
Thanks for all you did, Mrs Davis!

Farwell!

Today we said 'Goodbye' to a valued class member. Ladreah (and her family) are moving back to Whangarei.  We are sad to see her go, but we know that the school she is going to will be thrilled to have her.
Ladreah - we are going to miss your fabulous smile!  Your amazing ideas.  And the light you brought into our classroom each day.

Good luck at your new school.

Now That's Thinking!

In Term Two we are focussing on Technology.  As Matariki (The Maori New Year) is almost here we are going to be making kites and other things that fly, to celebrate the coming harvest.  We will also be thinking about food for celebrating and how best to present it, so we may be weaving baskets as well.

To introduce our topic to the school, the teachers in Team One made a movie called 'The Four Kites of Matariki'.  I'm sure you'll enjoy the movie as much as we did.

Last term we finished our Team Mural.  Our class made the eels that are swimming in the Omaru Creek.  The mural, along with other creations from our school and other local schools, was displayed at Te Oro Music and Arts Centre in Glen Innes.  We are very proud of our achievement.

Friday 7 April 2017

Today was Wacky Hair, Wheels and Mufti Day.  The money raised (we paid a gold coin) is to help with camp for the intermediate kids.

Most of Room 17 came in mufti, and some had done their hair in a spectacular way.

Here are Naomi, Alai, Tangiamanu and Maryjane, all looking very gorgeous with their fabulous hair and colourful clothes.

Waireinga, Tihoni, Alai and Eleni all brought wheels to ride around on at lunchtime.  Tihoni made sure his arms and knees were well protected.

We had a fabulous Friday.

Monday 6 March 2017

Monday's is Te Reo with whaea Saf.  We love sitting in a circle and singing waiata.

Tuesday 21 February 2017

On Tuesday afternoons Room 17 have time in Maker Space with Mr Vogt.  We get to be creative, and at present we have just started making eels for a mural that our team is making.  We love our time in Maker Space.  Thanks, Mr Vogt, for helping us.

Monday 20 February 2017

What a busy day Room 17 has had!  Apart from all the learning that we managed to get done, we also had a swimming lesson at the Glen Innes Pool, and after lunch we had Kiwi Sport where we are learning how to balance by making our arms like airplane wings, and keeping out eyes up.

We hope you like our photos.

Here we are listening to the instructor talk about why we have to wear a life jacket when we're in a boat.

Here we are all wearing a life jacket.
Looking great, Room 17!

Even the non-swimmers got to wear a life jacket.

Here we are practising our 'huddle' on dry land.

And here we are running around the obstacle course during Kiwi Sport
